Does a Tree Rot
(if it is not cut down)
A rowing boat, broken in two halves, floats above the viewer along with various recreational and outdoor gear. Low-key lighting emphasizes the impression of an underwater environment. Upon closer examination, the floating and sinking gear reveal some of the aspirations and identities of the passengers – what at first seems to be a disturbed picnic turns into a subtle metaphor of social injustice and lost utopias.
Does the tree rot (if it is not cut down) was exhibited in gallery Forum Box, Helsinki, summer 2014.
