Sleeping Saturn
Animation, 2012
The Sleeping Saturn is a panoramic scenery dominated by a statue-like figure sleeping amidts the landscape. The work slowly evolves as the statue is being built, the city growing around it, while at the same time it is deteriorating, being consumed by the forces of nature. This process repeats itself in an endless loop.
The work hints at the nature of power and authority: they have the tendency to hide in beliefs and mythologies, escaping our definition while still being supported and constructed by us.
Sleeping Saturn was exhibited in May 2012 as part of my exhibition Saturn and the Devils at Kluuvi Gallery, Helsinki, as well as a new edit in Mustarinda Summer Exhibition 2013.
